On Encouraging Higher Education Institutions in Macao to Offer Programmes in Specialized Finance

It is recently suggested that the Macao SAR Government should encourage the higher education institutions in Macao to offer higher education programmes in certain disciplines. The Tertiary Education Services Office hereby states as follow:

According to the existing regulations, the higher education institutions in Macao are legally entitled to enjoy autonomy in academic and pedagogical planning. The Tertiary Education Services Office has been in close contact with the local higher education institutions via a systematic communication mechanism, including regular meetings with the leaders of the institutions to share with them the latest information on developing local talents. Meanwhile, through guiding policies, we support local institutions to explore the possibilities of organizing higher education programmes which meet the needs of social development, according to the market trends and actual situation in Macao.

The Macao SAR Government sets a high value on developing financial professionals and supports the local higher education institutions to organize related programmes and training. At present, there are already several institutions that are offering finance-related degree programmes, while some of them have listed Financial Leasing as a compulsory subject. With the Government’s endeavor to develop the sector of specialized finance, we believe the local institutions will, in light of the actual situation in Macao, organize new programmes or adjust current ones in order to develop talents.
