Higher Education Institutions in Macao Have Carried out Evaluation Work in an Orderly Manner

The Higher Education Quality Evaluation System in Macao has been officially implemented since August 2018. Macao Higher Education Institutions have been carrying out various evaluation works in an orderly manner. According to the requirements of the Administrative Regulation No. 17/2018 “Higher Education Quality Evaluation System”, higher education programs in Macao that are already in operation on the effective date of the Regulation have to conduct Program Review according to the work schedule of the first evaluation cycle. (There were about 272 programs in operation in academic year 2017/2018):

In 2019, 20 programs offered by the University of Macau, City University of Macau and the University of Saint Joseph have been conducting program review and program accreditation, while Macao Polytechnic Institute and Macau University of Science and Technology have been conducting institutional accreditation. Meanwhile, other higher education institutions are in active preparation for various evaluation works. In addition, in order to encourage higher education institutions to obtain international professional accreditation, institutions can apply for program review exemption at the Bureau through valid professional accreditation. The granted exemption period shall be equivalent to the respective validity period of the professional accreditation.

The active cooperation and successively carrying out of evaluation work reflect higher education institutions’ support to the quality evaluation system, as well as their focus and value on quality assurance. As always, the Higher Education Bureau will continue to provide applicable support to higher education institutions, to maintain close communication, help them in understanding the arrangements of evaluation work and to assist them in adjusting progress of their evaluation work in accordance with the schedule as stipulated in the evaluation regulations.
